Derek Rogers

DEREK ROGERS - COSMIC OVERLAP (TLWS005)

A beautiful c60 release by a man who is no stranger to cassettes. I don't know how, but this cassette IS Austin, Texas. When SXSW is over and done with, everybody crams into their vans and taxis and leaves the city behind, mountains of concert posters pile up on the street, the city doesn't know what to do, there's still some guy trying to give out his demo to anybody who will listen. Derek Rogers isn't that guy, but I think he understands. Incredible full color U-card by Jenny Brunet. Packaged in indestructible plastic case. Blue and pink spray-painted nebulas on the cassettes. Tobin's Spirit Guide

TOBIN'S SPIRIT GUIDE - WASTED DAZE (TLWS004 C20)

I bet whenever you're in the mood for electro-acoustics your parents laugh and say that it's just a bunch of bleeps and bloops. Parents can be really weird with music, they're either raising you on Dylan or they don't listen to music at all. My dad only listens to Latin music, he actually just finished going through a reggaeton phase, so you can imagine my excitement when he told me that he went to go see John Cage in college. And then my disappointment when he said "he can't remember a thing about it." Parents: super weird. But I am very confident that had he went to go see electro-acoustics warlock TOBIN'S SPIRIT GUIDE, he would occasionally suffer severe flashbacks from that night. The cassette is blissful and cosmically eerie at once, not so much a laser show but similar to God's laser show. Shooting down meteors and synthesizers from above. +4 sine wave powers. Equip tape loop amulet. Comes with a photo-copied insert listing goofy track titles (my favorite: A Slight Chill AKA The Big Chill AKA Your Dad's Fave), and a full color J-card. It's a really creepy picture of my cousins and some clown that doesn't know how to dress up as a clown. (He is one half of Sundrips.)

Queen Victoria - Apocalyptic Field Recordings Vol. 1

QUEEN VICTORIA - APOCALYPTIC FIELD RECORDINGS VOL. 1 (TLWS003 C20)

I like my folk music the same way I like my graveyards: dark, foggy, sleazy bar room strummings, and full of ghosts. Long delayed, time passes. Comes with full color collage J-card and inserts with illustrations by Jenny Brunet. (MySpace) (Download an excerpt from Side A.mp3)

Sex Slaves - Various Terrifying Cassettes Vol. 1

Here’s the story: we have twenty cassettes that are four minutes per side. Recorded on these cassettes are doom-drone, brutal noise, found sound, verbal summarizations of uncomfortable news stories, audio recreations of uncomfortable news stories, and a bunch of other creepy shit. Each cassette will be totally unique, one of a kind, no tape will by copied. SEX SLAVES are nobody and everybody. These cassettes are only $3 each plus shipping. Video Nasties - Elektronische Droom Telephoon

VIDEO NASTIES – ELEKTRONISCHE DROOM TELEPHOON (TLWS001 C20)

The very first release available through THEY LIVE WE SLEEP. ELEKTRONISCHE DROOM TELEPHOON offers fucked keyboard beats, drowned in distortion, static, and feedback. High tones for the ladies, low tones for the men. At times the throbbing beats reminds us of that moment in revenge films where the protagonist has had enough of being tossed around, so he grabs a 2x4 or baseball bat and things really pick up (dun nun, dun nun, dun nun, dun nununun ). Other times you feel like you’re attending prom, and the graduating class consists of the undead from CARNIVAL OF SOULS. Each cassette and indestructible plastic case will be uniquely painted and designed, so nobody will receive the same one. Hell, give us a suggestion as what to paint on yours (colors, drawings, etc.) and maybe you’ll just get it. Copies are available at Cheap Thrills in Montreal. (View cassettes) (Download Side A.mp3) NEARLY EXTINCT!
